Beautiful Gold Buffalo Coins
March 20th, 2007
Everybody loves the American Buffalo Nickel. Last struck nearly 70 years ago, James Earle Fraser’s immortal classic is still one of the world’s most popular coins. Last summer the U.S. Mint brought the buffalo design back from extinction with its new, first-ever 24-karat gold coin. Now the 2007 Gold Buffalo is finally here!
The Gold Buffalo coin is steeped in American history. Its designs feature images originally prepared by James Earle Fraser for the now-famous “Buffalo Nickel” that was struck from 1913 to 1938. The Buffalo Nickel remains today one of the most popular American coins ever struck. Fraser’s design featured a profile of a Native American on the obverse and an American Buffalo on the reverse. Fraser said that the Indian profile was a composite of three Lakota and Cheyenne chiefs: John Big Tree, Iron Tail and Two Moons. The model for the buffalo was “Black Diamond,” then on display at New York City’s Central Park Zoo. Fraser’s design is generally considered to be among the best designs of any U.S. coin — and now it graces America’s grandest gold coin. Here’s your chance to not only get America’s newest and purest gold coin — but an American Classic as well!!!
You can purchase it here.
